Thales and Alcatel form a Strategic Alliance to Secure WAN and Wireless Solutions for the U.S. Government

Weston, FL - May 1, 2006

Thales today announced a significant strategic alliance with Alcatel Government Systems, Inc ( AGS ).

The agreement allows AGS to resell the entire Thales Datacryptor® product line. The alliance will primarily focus on the DoD and Civilian agencies for the U.S. Government. The Datacryptor product line of encryption devices enable secure transmissions for wireless and wireline deployments. The Datacryptors coupled with Alcatel’s microwave, SONET and high speed IP products are an ideal solution for U.S. government agencies. The Thales Datacryptor will allow new and existing infrastructure deployments to comply with the recently announced DoD mandates for security.

Over the last 25 years, Thales has provided encryption products to meet complex Government Link, Frame Relay, IP and other network security requirements and has delivered over 60,000 encryption products to government and commercial customers worldwide, including recent shipments of SONET encryptors to the DoD.

With its leading-edge optical multi-service product portfolio, Alcatel is at the forefront of the transformation of optical transport to IP/Ethernet. After pioneering the optical multi-service concept, Alcatel has raised the bar even higher with the launch of its 1850 Transport Service Switch ( TSS ). This new product further enhances Alcatel's next-generation SONET/ SDH product portfolio that includes the Alcatel 1677 SL, 1678 Metro Core Connect and data-aware Optical Multi-Service Node (OMSN) systems.

“Our US Federal customers are deploying mission critical, high speed Ethernet, Optical and Wireless infrastructures on land, sea, submarine and space,” said Ron Johnson, President, Alcatel Government Solutions, Inc., “The need for Gigabit speed encryption to protect these networks is clear.”

All of the Datacryptor products including the low speed link, T1/E1, T3/E3, 10Mb, 100Mb, Gigabit, SONET (OC-3, Oc-12, OC-48, OC-192) can be managed by a single secure management application. The Element Manager is a key differentiator for the Datacryptor products. The Datacryptor SONET devices are transparent to the Alcatel SONET switching equipment and offer customers easy scalability and central management.
”Our partnership with Alcatel will allow us to integrate our security solutions with Alcatel’s leading SONET and wireless equipment; therefore making it easier and more cost effective for our end user agencies to meet the necessary regulations,” said Cindy Provin, President of the e-Security activity of Thales in the Americas.

Thales is being recognized for its innovative, industry-leading Datacryptors® product line and was the recipient of the 2005 Frost & Sullivan Technology Leadership Award in the field of high-speed commercial encryption technology.

About Datacryptor® products:
